Shopping at a Mexican market or mercado can be an interesting experience. The Mexican mercado offers a variety of handicrafts, artwork, and clothing. They sell pot-tery, figurines, silver, pewter, Mexican blankets called serapes, ponchos, leather belts, purses, wallets, baskets, onyx, jewelry, paintings, embroidered dresses, and trinkets.

They sell all kinds of foodstuff, including fast-food and a large array of vegetables and fruits. You can even purchase knock-off imitations of expensive wristwatches for under $50. As you walk into the Mexican mercado, you will discover that it has many merchants selling their wares in individual stalls. Some sell the same or similar items. Many of these same wares are sold at stores outside the mercado.

MEXICAN PIÑATAS

One of the children’s favorite playthings is the piñata, and you can find these for sale in many Mexican mercados. A piñata is made out of newspaper and glue with a hollow inside. It is molded into almost any shape desired, preferably a favorite animal, and covered on the outside with colorful tissue paper.
